Bile acid pool size is?

A
1 g
B
2 g
C
3 g
D
4 g
High-Yield Explanation
Bile acids are not present in our diet but are synthesized in the liver by a series of enzymatic steps that represent catabolism of cholesterol. The rate limiting enzyme is 7-alpha-hydroxylase. Bile acids are reabsorbed in the ileum, jejunum and colon. The total size of bile acid pool is 4g. In case of disease of the terminal ileum, the bile acids are not absorbed and lead to active chloride secretions in the colon. This leads to secretory bile acid diarrhea. Cholic acid, chenodeoxycholic acid, and deoxycholic acid constitute more than 95% of biliary bile acids, and viually all biliary bile acids are in the conjugated form. Fecal bile acids are almost entirely unconjugated as a result of bacterial deconjugating enzymes in the colon and consist primarily of the dehydroxylated bile acids, deoxycholic acid, and lithocholic acid
