Drug of choice for Malaria during pregnancy is ?

Ans. is 'a' i.e., Chloroquine Chloroquine can be used for treatment of malaria during pregnancy : no aboifacient or teratogenic effects have been repoed. Treatment in pregnant women o If plasmodium is sensitive to chloroquine --> chloroquine is the DOC. o For chloroquine resistant strains --> Quinine o Pyrimethamine plus dapsone should not be given in first trimester, but may be given in 2nd & 3rd trimester for chloroquine resistant malaria. o Mefloquine is teratogenic and a woman should avoid pregnancy whilst taking it, and for 3 months after. o For prophylaxis in P.fakifarum endemic area Choloroquine sensitive malaria --> chloroquine is the DOC. Proguanil (with folic acid) may also be used.
