Anthrax is a zoonosis. The disease is generally fatal septicemia but may sometimes be localized, resembling the cutaneous disease in human beings. Anthrax may be cutaneous, pulmonary or intestinal. Cutaneous anthrax used to be common in dock workers carrying loads of hides and skins on their bare backs and hence was known as the hide poer's disease.
