The kidney have the following anatomic characteristics, EXCEPT:

The kidneys lie along the veebral column lying against the psoas major muscle extending from the first to the fouh lumbar veebrae. They lie exclusively within the retroperitoneal space. The renal aeries arise from the aoa. The right renal aery passes behind the inferior vena cava, entering the kidney at the hilus where it divides into segmental branches. The five segmental branches give rise to the interlobar aeries, which in turn give rise to the arcuate aeries.
