Proximal stripping is the method, by which proximal surfaces of teeth are sliced, in order to reduce the mesiodistal width of the teeth. It is also known by the synonyms - reproximation, slenderization, disking and proximal slicing. In Carey's analysis, if the difference between the arch length and the tooth material is between 0-2.5 mm, it indicates minimum tooth material excess and proximal stripping can be considered to reduce the tooth material.
