What is the capillary refill time in a child with shock?

A delay in capillary refill more than 3 seconds indicates a fluid depletion greater than 90ml/kg or shock. A delay in capillary refill of greater than 2 to 3 sec indicates inadequate peripheral circulation (volume depletion of 50 -90 ml/kg). Capillary refill time: It is an indicator of the adequacy of of peripheral perfusion. Changes in capillary refill time reflects decreased vascular volume or alteration in systemic vascular resistance. It is the earliest measurable clinical indicator of inadequate peripheral circulation. Normal capillary refill time for pediatric patients is less than 2 seconds. Its upper limit in adult men is 2s and for adult women is 2.9s.
