Although most clefts of the lip and palate occur as an isolated deformity, Pierre Robin sequence is an impoant association. This sequence comprises isolated cleft palate, retrognathia and a posteriorly displaced tongue (glossoptosis), which is associated with early respiratory and feeding difficulties.
