MC comp. of # talus is -

Most of the guides have given AVN as the most common complications of talus fracture. They are wrong. A most common complication of talus fracture is subtalar joint arthritis. Read following statements : - "Subtalar and ankle arthritis is a common complication of talar neck fractures, with an incidence ranging from 47 to 97%. Subtalar arthritis has been reported in up to 50% of cases and ankle arthritis in 33% of cases". "The overall incidence of AVN ranges between 19 and 69%". "Delayed union, nonunion and malunion of the talus are relatively rare. Delayed union is reported in 13% and non-union is noted in 4%".
