Ref:Textbook of forensic medicine and toxicology (V.V.Pillay) 17th edition, page no.370 As per MTP act 1971, for a pregnancy below 12 weeks duration , one medical officer alone can take the decision of performing an aboion, while if it is between 12-20weeks two medical officer is required to terminate the pregnancy. However if it is an emergency situation, a pregnancy exceeding 20weeks can be terminated even if only one doctor is available.
