Sedation occurs with those drugs that are potent antagonists of the H1-histamine receptor, including chlorpromazine, olanzapine, quetiapine and clozapine. Histamine H1 receptors mediate many pathological processes, including allergic rhinitis, atopic dermatitis, conjunctivitis, urticaria, bronchoconstriction, asthma and anaphylaxis.
