Ans. is 'c' i.e., Superolateral o The buttucks are the preferred site for administration of the intramuscular injection.o The muscles (gluteal) of this area are thick and are utilized frequently in daily activities, thus causing complete absorption of drugs.o To give injection at proper site, the gluteal region can be divided into four quadrant -i) Superomedial (upper inner quadrant)ii) Superolateral (upper outer quadrant)iii) Inferomedial (lower inner quadrant)iv) Inferolateral (lower outer quadrant)o The proper location for an injection is the upper outer quadrant (superolateral), because this is the location where there is least possibily of hitting bone, large blood vessels or the sciatic nerve. Common sites of intramuscular injectionUpper arm (Deltoid)o 5 cm distal to the acromion oro 4 cm proximal to the insertion of deltoido This is to prevent injury to circumflex humeral nerve.Gluteal regiono Upper outer (superolateral) quadranto This is to avoid damage to superior & inferior gluteal vessels and sciatic nerveo The muscle in which the injection is given is gluteus medius.Thigh (lateral aspect) (vastus lateralis )o Infant:- Upper lateral quadrant of thigh below GTo Adult:- Middle third of lateral aspect
