High-Yield Explanation
Sulfonylureas stimulate insulin release from the pancreatic beta cells. NIDDM patients who receive sulfonylureas are shown to have an increase in the concentration in the insulin receptors They also stimulate the synthesis of glucose transporters and enhance insulin action by improving the translation of receptor activation. They are also shown to suppress hepatic gluconeogenesis. They however do not interfere with the intestinal absorption of glucose.
