Sabiston writes - "Patients who undergo exploration for presumed appendicitis and have evidence of Crohn's disease should undergo appendectomy. Although there is theoretical concern for the development of an enterocutaneous fistula, this is extremely rare. Moreover appendectomy prevents further diagnostic confusion."
