What is the quantity of Hb that is catabolised every day in a normal adult?
High-Yield Explanation
Daily degradation of hemoglobin per day is 8gm. When old RBC's are destroyed in the macrophages, the globin poion splits off and the heme is conveed to biliverdin. Most of the biliverdin is conveed to bilirubin and is excreted in the bile. Iron from the heme is reused for hemoglobin synthesis and is usually stored in the form of hemosiderin and ferritin.
