Infectious complications related with blood transfusion are : Viral causes: HIV, Hepatitis C virus, Hepatitis G virus, Hepatitis B virus, West Nile virus, Cytomegalovirus, Human T lymphotropic virus (HTLV) type-1 and Parvovirus B-19. Bacterial causes: Yersinia, Pseudomonas, Serratia, Acinetobacter and Escherichia species. Other infectious agents: Malaria, Babesiosis and Chagas disease can be transmitted by blood transfusion.
