Hibernating myocardium refers to a state of chronic reversible myocardial contractile dysfunction,  that is almost completely restored after myocardial repercussion. Recovery  occurs after revascularization,  not spontaneous. Acute coronary occlusion results in stunned myocardium.  Whereas chronic occlusion  results in hibernating myocardium.
