Most amoebic ulcers occur in the rectosigmoid. On sigmoidoscopy shallow skip lesions and 'flaskshaped' or 'collar-stud' undermined ulcers may be seen and can be biopsied or scrapings can be taken along with mucus for immediate microscopic examination.
