It is due to obstruction in the venous return by the pregnant uterus. Specific treatment is better to be avoided. Varicosities usually disappear following delivery Valvular varicosities may be aided by application of a foam rubber pad suspended across the vulva by a belt used with a perineal pad. Rarely large varicosities may rupture leading to profuse hemorrhage.
