An adult male patient presented in the OPD with complaints of cough and fever for 3 months and haemoptysis off and on, His sputum was positive for AFB. On probing it was found that he had already received treatment with RHZE for 3 weeks from a nearby hospital and discontinued. How will you categorize and manage the patient -

Ans. is 'c' i.e., Category 1, sta 2 (RHZE)3 o WHO defined case as patient whose sputum is positive for tubercle bacilli. o New case - A patient with sputum positive pulmonary tuberculosis who has never had treatment for tuberculosis or has taken anti-tuberculosis drugs for than 4 weeks. o In given question patient already recieved treatment HRZE for 3 week and then discontinued. So this patient received treatment less than 4 week and he is sputum +ve for AFB. So this patient is classified as category 1 and managed by 2 (HRZE)3 + 4 (HR)3.
