High-Yield Explanation
It is due to collection of blood between the auricular cailage and its perichondrium. If haematoma gets infected, severe perichondritis may set in. Often it is the result of blunt trauma seen in boxers, wrestlers and rugby players. Extravasated blood may clot and then organize, resulting in 'Cauliflower ear'.
