Primary peritonitis is common in cirrhotic patients with ascites,as spontaneous bacterial peritonitis(SBP).Ascitic fluid WBC count if more than 250 cells mm3 with more than 50% cells are polymorphonuclear cells(PMN) suggestive of SBP. Reference:SRB' s manual of surgery,5th edition, page no:566.
