Finkelstein&;s test is for de Quervain&;s tenosynovitis - it is a condition characterised by pain & swelling over styloid process ,it results from inflammation of common sheath of abductor pollicis longus & extensor pollicis brevis tendons . on examination, the tenderness is localised to the radial styloid process .pain is aggravated by adducting the thumb across the palm & forcing detion against resistance( finkelstein&;s test) .There may be palpable thickening of the sheath.
