A patient walking barefoot in morning walk has developed a swelling in the foot. Probable diagnosis is:

Ans. (a) Staphylococcus aureus.* Note the presence of Abscess on foot with central raised area of whitish pus surrounded by erythema which in most probability is caused by Staphylococcus aureus.* Botryomycosis (bacterial pseudomycosis) is an uncommon chronic bacterial infection of skin caused by masses of colonizing bacteria. Staphylococcus aureus is the usual cause, but a wide range of gram negative organisms have also been isolated. It presents with multiple grape like fluctuant lesions.* In madura foot, the initial lesion is a small subcutaneous swelling following minor trauma.
