High-Yield Explanation
Ans. B: Late stent thrombosis About 1-2% of people with a stent develop a blood clot at the stent site. Blood clots can cause strokes, hea attacks, and other serious problems. The risk of blood clots is greatest during the first few months after the stent is placed in the aery extending upto three years after implantation. Drug-coated stents may increase the risk of developing blood clots. It is thus standard practice to prolong dual antiplatelet therapy (Aspirin and Clopidogrel) for at least 12 months after placement of a drug eluting stent.
