Heimlich manoeuver is done to check:
High-Yield Explanation
Hemlich manoeuver or abdominal thrusts are used to clear an obstructed airway in an adult or a child older than 1year who is choking. Person performing this manoeuver uses their hands to exe pressure on the bottom of the diaphragm. This compresses the lungs and exes pressure on any object lodged in the trachea and expelling it out. In children less force is applied to abdomen to avoid injuring the child's ribs, sternum and internal organs. In very heavy people or pregnant woman chest thrusts are used. In children younger than 1 year this manoeuver is not used because of the risk of damage to baby's internal organs.
