The thymus is a bilobed structure, made up of two pyramidal lobes of unequal size which are connected together by areolar tissue. Each lobe develops from the endoderm of the third pharyngeal pouch. It lies on the pericardium, the great vessels of the superior mediastinum, and the trachea.
