Common causes of papillary necrosis are diabetes mellitus, analgesic nephropathy, sickle cell disease and urinary tract obstruction. Diabetes mellitus is the most common cause of renal papillary necrosis. Analgesic nephropathy is associated with the use of more than 1 kg analgesics.
