Absorption of drug is slower, irregular and unpredictable. Drug absorbed into the external hemorrhoidal vein (50%) bypasses the liver but not that absorbed into the internal hemorrhoidal vein. Diazepam, indomethacin, ergotamine and paracetamol can be used rectal route of administration.
