Organic nitrates are lipid-soluble: well absorbed from buccal mucosa, intestines and skin. Ingested orally, all except isosorbide mononitrate undergo extensive and variable first pass metabolism in liver.They are rapidly denitrated by a glutathione reductase and a mitochondrial aldehyde dehydrogcnase.
