As these changes become diffuse and intense, the glomeruli undergo thrombotic occlusion of the capillaries, and fibrinoid necrosis occurs in aerial walls. The kidney coex then undergoes outright necrosis (infarction), and such nonfunctioning kidneys have to be removed.
