Not used as emergency contraception

Emergency contraception(EC) is based on the fact that protection is provided within 72 hours of unprotected intercourse. Mifepristone and LNG are proven easily administered oral therapy for EC whereas Cu T can be used effectively and cost effectively even till the fifth day after unprotected intercourse. However, LNG intrauterine device is more useful for disorders like menorrhagia, irregular bleeding, hyperplasia of the endometrium, etc .
