Molluscum contagiosum may affect any area of the skin but is most common on the trunk, arms, and legs. Diagnosis is based on the characteristic clinical appearance of pearly, dome-shaped papules with a dimpled center. The papules measure 1 to 5 mm in diameter, and their central waxy core contains cells with cytoplasmic viral inclusions. These ellipsoid inclusions are seen in stratum corneum/granulosum layers of skin and are called "molluscum bodies".
