The benzopyran centchroman is also a SERM. Originally developed in India as a non-steroidal oral contraceptive, it was initially proposed as a once-a-weekpill but this was associated with unacceptable failure rates. The dose was therefore revised to twice-weekly for the first three months, followed by weekly doses. It has also been tried for postcoital contraception.
