After esterification with CoA, propionyl-CoA is carboxylated to d-methylmalonyl-CoA, catalyzed by propionyl-CoA carboxylase, a biotin-dependent enzyme.l-methylmalonyl-CoA undergoes isomerization to succinyl-CoA catalyzed by methylmalonyl-CoA mutase.
