High-Yield Explanation
Immune complex-associated MPGN (MPGN I and III) By chronic antigenemia or circulating immune complexes This type of MPGN in the adult is most commonly due to antecedent hepatitis B or C viral infection. Other eg are shunt nephritis and infective endocarditis, and protozoal diseases such as malaria and schistosomiasis. MPGN can also result from autoimmune diseases such as mixed cryoglobulinemia, systemic lupus erythematosus, Sjogren's syndrome, and scleroderma. Finally monoclonal gammopathy of undetermined significance, chronic lymphocytic leukemia, low-grade B-cell lymphomas, and multiple myeloma can also cause this type of MPGN.
