An abrasion results from friction along a surface, removing or peeling of the superficial layers of the skin that results in a raw exposed or bleeding surface. On the other hand, laceration is one which causes a discontinuity in the skin or mucosal surface, which can be simple, stellate, jagged, beveled or flap-like.
