Serotonin is the most impoant neurotransmitter in depression. Mania --> Increased level of norepinephrine Patients suffering from severe depression with suicidal intent/attempt appear to have a marked decrease in serotinin. Acetylcholine and GABA are the other neurotransmitters which are involved in mood disorders.
