HUS(hemolytic uremic syndrome) caused by insults that lead to the excessive activation of platelets, which deposit as thrombi in microcirculatory beds. These intravascular thrombi cause microangiopathic hemolytic anemia and widespread organ dysfunction, and the attendant consumption of platelets leads to thrombocytopenia.
