In a diabetic patient, barrier method of contraceptive is ideal for spacing of births. Low dose combined oral pills containing 3rd generation progestins are effective & have got minimal effect on Carbohydrate metabolism. Main worry is their effect on vascular disease. Progestin only pill is a suitable alternative. IUCD increases the incidence of pelvic infection. Permanent sterilization should be seriously considered following second live birth, under local anaesthesia in the puerperium
