Infant botulism is caused by ingestion of spores of Clostridium botulinum in food which gets deposited in the gut and later produces toxin. Cases occur in infants below 6 months. Older children are not susceptible. The manifestations are constipation, poor feeding, lethargy, weakness, pooled oral secretions, weak or altered cry, floppiness and loss of head control.
