KERATOPLASTY or CORNEAL GRAFTING Corneal preservation techniques: 1) Sho term preservation in moist chamber or Mc Carey Kaufmann medium refrigerated at 2 -8degC requires the cornea to be used with in 48-72 hrs. 2) Intermediate term preservation in medium containing chondroitin sulphate refrigerated at 2-8degC for 7 - 14 days or maintained at 37 by organ culture methods using modified eagle&;s medium extend this to 30 days. 3) Long term preservation is upto 1 yr by cryopreservation in liquid nitrogen or in glycerol.
