Highest point of the iliac crest lies at the level of the interval between L3 and L4 veebrae. It is an impoant landmark for doing lumbar puncture.Iliac crest is the broad convex ridge forming the upper end of ilium. Anterior end of iliac crest is called anterior superior iliac spine. The lateral end of inguinal ligament is attached to it.The posterior end of iliac crest is called posterior superior iliac spine which lies at the level of S2 spine.A little distance below the anterior and posterior iliac spine are the anterior and posterior inferior iliac spines.Iliac fossa is a large concave area on the inner surface of ilium from where the iliacus muscle takes origin.Ref: Textbook of Anatomy and Physiology for Nurses By P.
