Commonest cause of moality in Ivor Lewis operation

Ivor Lewis operation is done for esophageal carcinoma. It is a 2 stage operation, in which abdomen is opened first, closed and then thoracotomy is performed. As it involves esophago- gastric anastomosis, Major complication causing moality is anastomotic leak. Aggressive investigation for leak is mandatory in case of unexplained fever or clinical event.
